The CrossFit Journal is a wonderful publication put out by CrossFit Headquarters. Unlike most magazines, this one arrives in your e-mail inbox, and includes video as well as written articles. You don’t have to wade through pages and pages of ads of falsely advertised “miracle pills” to get to good articles on health and fitness. There are no ads!On today’s main page there is a preview to the May 2008 video article for CrossFit Kids.
If you are just now trying to get into shape after a long spell of ignoring your fitness and health, or after medical issues that have compromised your fitness, that is great! You have taken the first step towards helping your children. Our kids see us as their first role model. They will be more likely to want to move away from the TV and video games if they see their parents as active. Make family time into something fun and get outside. Ride bikes together, go on hikes, visit the beach or the the local park. With summer coming, now is a good time to start looking at different options to get your kids active. Make them part of the decision process. What are their likes and interests? Is there a sport they like to play? Sign them up for a summer camp. Do they like gymnastics or want to learn martial arts? Get them in a class. Learning to love moving their bodies now will make them more likely to want to keep moving them as the get older. Hopefully, they will establish good habits now that will make them active adults.
If your little ones have asked to join you in the WODs, let them! Crossfit is designed for everyone. It uses functional movements that allow you to move the way you were designed to move. For kids it is a blast to pull out the stopwatch and race the clock or each other. If you have a local affiliate, see if they have a CrossFit Kids program. Even if you child is already in a sport, this is great basic strength and conditioning program to make them a better athlete.
Here are the Mac and Windows versions of the video article. It is of Brand X Martial Arts’ CrossFit Kids program. The link provided will give you a list of all the programs. There may be one near you.
